New Climate Rights Int'l Report Details Abuses, Environment Damage in Nickel Mines in the Philippines
Climate Rights International will release on Nov. 4, 2025, a new report on nickel mining in the Philippines and its impact on the environment and the lives of people in mining communities in the Caraga region. Titled “Broken Promises: Philippines Nickel Mining Threatens Rights and Increases Climate Vulnerability,” the report is based on dozens of interviews with affected Filipinos in that region.
Krista Shennum, CRI researcher who wrote the report, will be present at a press conference in Quezon City on Nov. 4 to talk about her findings and to answer questions from the press. A forum on the climate crisis the Philippines faces, to be participated in by climate advocates, will follow.
